If you’ve never had any acting training, you may not see there being much of a connection between improv and entrepreneurship, but what is running a business if not improvisation? After all, no entrepreneur can plan out how everything will go. Eventually, you’ll have to simply say yes and confidently ride the wave of events as they propel you forward to an unknowable future.
This is the mindset that EO Regional Chair Taunya Renson-Martin brought to her business after moving from the U.S. to Belgium. Before her move, she wasn’t an entrepreneur at all, but an actress who had been performing in one way or another her entire life.
It was only after moving to Belgium to build a life with her husband that she stumbled into the realistic prospect of starting her own company. Fifteen years later, her role in her business has evolved, but she still carries with her the lessons she learned in her theater training and instills them in her employees.
